Jim Becker- Guest Speaker at i.c.stars

I.c.stars is an organization dedicated to “identifying, training, and jump-starting technology careers for Chicago-area low-income young adults who, although lacking access to education and employment, demonstrate extraordinary potential for success in the business world and for impact in their communities.” The program is competitive and selects only 10-15 candidates from a pool of several hundred qualified

young adults. Individuals are selected because they have overcome serious adversity and have profound ambitions. CEO Jim Becker was asked to attend a ‘high tea’ session in which a senior executive shares their experiences that enabled them to achieve their success. This hour spent serves as an inspiration to the young adults in the program. To see more on the i.c.stars program click on the link below to their website, and to see Jim Becker’s comments about the program click the YouTube link below.

Minor league pitcher of the year: Edwin Carl

Jim Becker, Patrick Welton, and Edwin Carl

This past week, Becker Logistics was lucky enough to have Edwin Carl, minor league baseball pitcher of the year, visit our office in Glendale Heights, IL. Edwin was pulled from Idaho Falls to join the roster of the Kane Country Cougars for their playoff series. The Kane Country Cougars are the minor league affiliate to the Kansas City Royals. His talent as a closing pitcher is needed during the Cougars post season. The team, including Edwin will be rewarded a possible ring if they win their playoffs. One of the Becker Logistics employees is acting as a host family to him while he stays in Chicago. Later in the evening after Edwin’s visit, some Becker employees took him out to Shark city sports bar to celebrate his 23rd birthday which occurred during his stay in Chicago. We wish Edwin and the Cougars the best of luck in the playoffs!
